For backpacker

Nice weather, but time is short?
Doesn’t matter, there is always a way to spend at least a few hours on a beautiful autumn day in the nature! A trip to the Schöpfl was a day like this for us.

Vienna Woods highest mountain, the Schöpfl, offers a beautiful panoramic view up to 100km on clear days, you can spot the Danube as well as the Ötscher or the Schneeberg. The paths are easy, wide and child-friendly, also you find a managed hut on top. Mountainbike enthusiast can find multiple routes.

Start is in St. Corona am Schöpfl (Parking Spot in St. Corona am Schöpfl)
From there the way to the top is well labeled, we passed the church and a big cross on a field and continued to the top on a hiking way through the forest.

Our Tip for you: don’t hike during a storm.

On Top of the mountain the Matraswarte and the Schöpfl-Schutzhaus can be found. We enjoyed the view from the tower, and because you can reach the top of the Schöpfl from St. Corona in under one hour, we didn’t directly returned to the start, our descent was directed to Schöpflgitter (also well labeled). On our way we passed the Holztrift- und Forstmuseum Schöpflklause (Restricted Opening Times, check Webpage!) and the Riesenbachklause. From there we went back to St. Corona.

The way from St. Corona to the top of the Schöpfl is short, almost so short that you have to call it a walk instead of a hike. But the effort to view ratio is at an optimum. And you can combine multiple ways if a simple up and down is to short for you.

Here you can find some views from our tour:
